Clinical drug monitoring

Centralize drug testing to optimize efficiency, spend, and patient care

For health systems, controlling costs and ensuring accurate patient test history can be challenging. This is especially true when multiple providers—primary care providers, pain specialists, etc—are involved in caring for a patient, prescribing medications, and sometimes duplicating test requests.

Consolidating testing with Quest provides centralized access and visibility to test ordering and results through the EHR system. This can deliver system-wide insights to inform changes to drug monitoring protocols, risk mitigation, test stewardship, and more.

Our comprehensive drug test menu covers a broad range of substances

Our broad menu of drug tests covers substances that patients take to address chronic pain, anxiety, depression, ADHD, or substance use disorder—whether those  substances are prescribed, nonprescribed, or illicit.

Our single drug test options and panels include tests for pain medications, stimulants, sedatives, antidepressants, antipsychotics, opioids, other controlled substances, and illicit drugs. We also offer a wide range of panels that screen for several different combinations of drugs and medications.

  • Alcohol metabolites (EtG, EtS)
  • Alcohol biomarkers (PEth)
  • Amphetamines
  • Amphetamines, with reflex to d-methamphetamine (dextromethamphetamine) and l-methamphetamine (levomethamphetamine) isomers
  • Antidepressants
  • Antipsychotics (urine)
  • Antipsychotics (serum)

Flexible testing solutions let you choose the right test for each patient

Best practices include presumptive testing with confirmation of positives with definitive testing, as well as direct-to-definitive testing when a presumptive test for a specific drug is not available. This helps minimize overtesting while providing the right level of information needed to make informed decisions.

Quest offers broad presumptive test offerings to quickly rule out multiple drug classes, and definitive testing for confirmation of presumptive positive results and for testing where presumptive tests are not available.

Get more actionable insights with definitive drug testing options

Definitive drug tests are used to identify specific drugs/metabolites present. Definitive testing has high sensitivity and is used to confirm or refute presumptive test results, helping to reduce the occurrence of false-positive/false-negative results.

We offer definitive drug testing as individual tests or panels, including a comprehensive panel that provides additional insights.

  • Tests for 7 most commonly ordered controlled Rx medications and illicit/misused substances
  • Clinical settings include primary care, OBGYN, pain management

  • Tests for controlled Rx medications, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) drugs and illicit/misused substances
  • Clinical settings include primary care, OBGYN, pain management

  • Tests for extended controlled Rx medications, including MAT drugs and illicit/misused substances
  • Clinical settings include healthcare providers requiring a larger panel in nonemergency settings
Why choose Quest for presumptive and definitive drug testing solutions?

Quest is an industry leader in clinical drug monitoring and research and can support health systems through responsible drug testing that helps manage the dual drug misuse and mental health crises.

Novel Psychoactive Substances (NPS) Panel now available

Quest now offers definitive NPS testing, which simultaneously identifies a broad array of NPS classes. The panel uses definitive liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/ MS)-based testing to establish NPS misuse. Using data from public safety, law enforcement, research organizations, and internal surveillance, the panel is updated periodically and evaluated at least annually, ensuring inclusion of the most relevant and prevalent substances without having to change the test code.
